• Masks of the Himalayas |
|
At the very bottom of Paris, in a small anonymous apartment, this collection of "primitive" masks of the Himalayas areas pile up carefully since the early Eighties. The collector Marc Petit is also author, poet, storyteller, novelist essayist and translator of the German poets. Collector of primitive art for more than 30 years, he has stuck in particular to make known tribal and chamanist art of the ignored Himalayas to the primitive art lovers and to museums, until the nineties. He carried out more than a dozen of trips in the Nepal, which enabled him to gather a collection of Himalayan primitive masks without equivalent in the world. Those masks date mostly from the 19th and 20th centuries. Thus, he is one of the most important specialist in this field and wrote one book of references upon the subject
