FERT Bruno contact photographer • IRAK: Baghdad palaces.
American soldiers stay in palaces that used to belong to Saddam Hussein. Located either on the banks of the Tigris river or in downtown Baghdad, these huge marble mansions surrounded by sumptuous gardens were built by the Raïs for himself and his entourage. The monumental halls of the palaces have now been turned into dormitories where hundreds of young Americans try to live as comfortably as they can. For them, the dream palaces are actually golden prisons since, except for military missions or patrols outside, they are not allowed to leave the buildings. Even their time off has to be spent inside "The Palace" and the swimming pool is the only entertaining element in their new life in Baghdad.
