MUNOZ YAGUE Carlos contact photographer • SAO TOMÉ, the cocoa island
Sao Tome the cocoa island, Portuguese during almost five hundred years, was at the beginning of the XX century the first world producer of cocoa.
This economic and human adventure finds a century later an unexpected continuation, thanks to the rediscovery of the exceptional qualities of the beans of Sao Tome by a French chocolate maker.

Thirty years after the independence and the disappearance of the big colonial exploitations, planters continue to maintain a confidential production of high quality. A beneficial market for this tiny and isolated State, among the most discriminated of the planet.

Off the Gabun, São Tomé and Principle is the smallest State of Africa, after Seychelles. This archipelago, ex Portuguese colony for a long time dedicated to the production of cocoa, arouses the interest of the Westerners thanks to its oil-fields. On a tropical nonchalance and chronic underdevelopment background...
